School Decision-making

Students participate at many levels of decision making at Grange Schools. The original student voice web site team, who worked collaborately with staff to create this web site, are pictured above. Learners develop decision making skills through Student Voice and regular class meetings. These skills include the ability to:

- negotiate aspects of the curriculum making learning more purposeful and relevant
.

- critically reflect on personal learning in order to take social action as a global citizen
.

- actively participate in whole school decision-making and consultation
School Decision-making.

ICT Student Voice

This committee consists of one elected member from each class. ICT Student Voice representatives share information with their class and ask for feedback.They meet once every fortnight to discuss issues raised within the class and school such as:

- supporting training for staff and students to further develop learning in ICT

- critically reviewing the Grange Web site and the schools' Intranet

- printing concerns

- care of the computer

Science Student Voice

This Committee consists of one elected member from each class. They meet regularly to:

- discuss science and its promotion in the school

- organise science assemblies

- organise aspects of whole school science focus days
buy science resources

- share science ideas

Numeracy/Maths Student Voice

Representatives from each class meet on a fortnightly basis. Students are involved in surveying their classes and sharing the concept of working mathematically and sharing activities that extends students numeracy skills. This includes skills of Questioning, Reading and Investigating in Numeracy.

Middle School Student Voice

Two representatives from each year 6/7 class are elected and meet weekly. They discuss issues connected with middle school students as well as the whole- school such as:

- organise the Yr 7 End of the year graduation

- have an active role in the decision making on issues relevant to young adolescents

-sponsoring a child through World Vision as well the Sumatran Tiger at the Adelaide Zoo.

 

Environmental Student Voice

The Environmental Student Voice committee is made up of one student from each class. They are elected because of their keen interest in environmental issues. They support World Environment Day Trees for Life Recycling in our school.

 

Well-Being Student Voice

Membership to this committee is shared among classes during the year. They discuss, gather information and suggest ways to enhance the well-being of students at our school such as:

- how to make our school environment safer so that everyone can learn and play and build friendships with confidence

- develop a common understanding of well-being for self and others including harassment issues

- support the peer mediation program

 

Resource Centre Student Voice

One elected member from each class is a part of the Resource Centre Student Voice. They meet fortnightly to discuss events such as Book Week and lunchtime activities
student activities available during lunch time eg. computer access, games and videos.

The Indigenous Student Voice

Our Indigenous community is represented by students who meet fortnightly to discuss learning and events of cultural significance.
